Figi! Ahhh Figi. As soon as I left I wanted to go back. We flew into Nadi, which was very different than I expected. Figi is very much a third world country. What we see on television and in people pictures are the resort islands. The main island is not like that. Which is why when people go to Figi, they go to the Islands. The particular Island we stayed at was in the Yasawa Island chain, called Waya Island. It was an hour boat ride from Nadi. It was amazing. We stayed at The Ocotpus Island Resort, which I highly recommend. It is a small resort and has more employees than guests. It is a very intimate type of resort and feels very much like a family there. All of the workers live on the other side of the island. These islands out there are small. So all that is on an island is one village. The resort offered a number of activities for its guests, so you can either do like I did and do nothing or do as Christian did and do everything. Christian has a very hard time relaxing, so while I laid out on the beach and relaxed he snorkeled, scuba dived and played volleyball. We both took part in international crab racing, which was a blast! And we both took a hike to the village to see all the school children. It is so different how they live on that side of the island. But these kids are so resilient. They don’t know what they don’t have and they are still so happy! It really makes me grateful for what we have. And to end our time in Figi we both got massages!
