Moms are selfless creatures. They put themselves aside for 18 years (let’s be honest, I’m 28 and my mom still puts me first) to become our chauffeur, therapist, cook, and if you’re lucky, your best friend. That is why Mother’s Day is so important. It is an opportunity to let your mom know how grateful you are for those years of sleepless nights and worrying and fretting and praying. It is the one day of the year that mom’s everywhere can feel ok about doing what they want to do and not worrying about what everyone else wants. Again, let’s be honest, they still don’t take a break, even on Mother’s Day. Happy Mothers Day to all the fabulous mothers out there!
Since it’s Nurses Week I thought I would celebrate a couple of fabulous nurses I recently shot here in San Diego! Brian and Katie are the sweetest couple and someone I would want taking care of me if needed a nurse! When we first met Brian had mentioned he always sees couples take engagement photos at the beach and they always look the same. He wanted something unique and fresh. (Yay someone who wanted something different) Immediately I knew I would have fun with them! He asked if I would mind shooting in Julian (side note about photographers: we are almost always up for something new!). I was secretly hoping to get at least one snow shot. So on a very cold day, we drove up to Julian for a fun engagement session! We headed down Main Street and stopped in front of some cute, colorful shops, rustic fences and, of course, filled our bellies with famous Julian apple pie and coffee. Once we were warm and full, we went searching for snow, which we eventually found on the side of a nearby road. Yay! Brian and Katie frolicked in the leaves, played in the snow and then snuggled up in a blanket, all of which made for some great shots! On the way back we found a large field to stop in for a few more shots before the last of the light escaped. This couldn’t have been a more perfect engagement session! Check out Lisa, fondly called Lisa Ballerina by her friends. Can you tell why? This beautiful girl loves to dance and she is amazing at it! I got to witness some of her skills during our senior session and she is mesmerizing to watch! Makes me think about the lack of rhythm I have and how my dance moves include the lawn mower, the sprinkler, fishing line and a little booty popping…. (Thanks dad for the moves). I wish I could move as gracefully as she does. We took Lisa’s love for dance and outdoors to customize a senior session that was just for her!
Lisa will be attending Juilliard next fall and that is why we decided to center her senior session on her love for dance! Check out how beautiful she is doing her thing… in first and second position… and watch out for Lisa to one day join an amazing ballet company! I had so much fun shooting with Lisa! In fact, seniors are one of my favorite things to shoot. I love the one on one interaction with the client. It is something I don’t get when I am chasing children or running around on a wedding day. And it is so much fun to have clients get all done up and feel like a model for the day!
