Studio Tour

sessions-a

lot has been going on the past few months that I wanted to share.

First, my long awaited website has been completed. Katie, with KD Creative, started this back in November and bless her heart for accommodating all my changes. My first idea was to release my website in January. I thought “A new year and a new look”. But that would have meant rushing through the design portion and I really wanted to get this right. Katie had the patience of a saint and I have to thank my photogra-friends for helping me when I was wavering on what I wanted the look and feel of the site to be. I couldn’t figure out if I wanted bold and editorial or soft and whimsical. I think in the end we stayed closer to the bold, but with a soft feel.  I must have been a total pain in the butt to work with… I would say things like, “well if I use this text then it doesn’t go with the feeling of these pictures”. When you are so deep into a design and wanting it to feel perfect, you start to focus on every little thing…nitpicking things most visitors to the site would never even notice. After about 10 drafts, we started to get the feeling I wanted. Side note, indecision is nothing new to me. As a child, I redecorated my bedroom every few months. I would drag my mom to Target every time I got a new idea for my room to pick out all new furnishings and when she finally said this habit of mine was getting too expensive, I started to drag her to the fabric store so we could make new furnishings: drapes, duvet covers, pillow shams, you name it, we made it. Just like my bedroom as a child, my website is a place I want to reflect who I am. Let’s just hope I don’t change my mind any time soon!

So during this process we fell into the second big announcement, we bought our first house! Christian and I looked and looked for about a year. Just when we gave up hope of ever finding our dream home (one we could actually afford), we found it! What sealed the deal was the property has a granny flat on it that I turned into a studio! Having a studio on the property, but not inside the house means I don’t actually have to clean the house when clients come. For those of you who may not have known, I had a studio in Little Italy for a couple of years. I used that facility to meet clients, but I would spend my days editing on the couch with Sophie and would do my “in-studio” sessions, like my newborn and smash cake, at my old house in my old bedroom. My parents were gracious enough to let me convert my old bedroom into a studio after I moved out. Now, my commute to work consists of a walk down the stairs and a few steps out the back door. I am so blessed we found this place!

Since clients are always asking what kind of props I have for my newborn sessions and are curious as to what the studio looks like, I thought the perfect first post on my new blog would be a studio tour! So check it out below and hopefully you can join me in the new studio for a session!
